FIA Formula 3 European Championship
Verstappen or Ocon
Who would have thought so? Esteban Ocon is getting under massive pressure. Having won all the three races of a Formula 3 European Championship meeting for the second consecutive time, Max Verstappen reduced the Frenchman’s lead to just 74 points and consequently turned the battle for the FIA Formula 3 European Championship title into a true thriller.
There still are 15 races to contest, in the current season and so, the battle for the title is far from being over. Apart from 16-yesar old Verstappen and his team, the Spiess Motorenbau GmbH management and engineers also were delighted about the young Dutchman’s success. After all, he relies on Volkswagen power and is attended to by Spiess.
Having won the three races at Spa-Francorchamps, Max Verstappen also proved to be invincible at Nuremberg’s street circuit. Once again, the son of former Formula 1 ace Jos Verstappen won all the three rounds of the race weekend. With this streak of success, Verstappen – who advanced to the F3 European Championship right from karting – demonstrated an incredible amount of talent: no matter if in dry or wet conditions, on high-speed racetracks or tight street circuits – Verstappen always is among the front-runners. And his statement after the Sunday race underlined his serenity: “I made a good start and afterwards, I quickly was able to open a gap on the field,” said the man who now holds second position in the championship. “Then, it just was about keeping my distance to the crash barriers and walls to make sure that I finish and cross the line as race winner.”
The next three FIA Formula 3 European Championship rounds will be held on 12th and 13th July at Moscow. One thing, however, already can be taken for granted: the tile will be secured by one of these two rookies: Max Verstappen or Esteban Ocon.
