FIA Formula 3 European Championship

Joel Eriksson the 2016 SONAX F3 Rookie

“What a feeling! I really won the rookie title! Winning it in my first FIA Formula 3 European Championship season was my major goal,” beamed Joel Eriksson. The 18-year old Swede secured the €100,000 prize money with a Dallara F312 Volkswagen-Spiess entered by Team Motopark. “I want to thank every single person that supported me this year, thus enabling me to win the title.” With this remark, Eriksson also appreciated the support of the Spiess engineers who accompanied him and attended to him throughout the season.

Meanwhile, Lance Stroll impressed the Hockenheim crowds with another three race wins on 15th and 16th October. The Canadian had secured the FIA Formula 3 European Championship title and consequently travelled to the season finale as the new champion. Nobody should be amazed if the current Williams F1 junior succeeded in securing a Williams GP seat for the coming season – not only but also thanks to a multi-million dowry of his father who is a billionaire.

Meanwhile, for Joel Eriksson the 2017 season will be the year of his championship title campaign. This year, the Swedish hopeful made it to fifth position in the overall rankings and in the rookie rankings he prevailed with a 52-point lead over Ralf Aron in second position.

But the season is not yet over for Eriksson. From 17th to 20th November he will make his last motor-racing appearance in 2017. In the former colony Macau, nor far from Hong Kong, he will compete in the arguably most prestigious Formula 3 race in the world: the Macau Grand Prix.
