FIA F3 European Championship
Kari celebrates his first win, Eriksson extends lead in the rookie ranking
In the penultimate race meeting of the 2016 FIA Formula 3 European Championship, held at Imola’s former F1 circuit, Niko Kari celebrated his first win in the series on 01st October, thus giving himself the best present for his birthday he is going to celebrate five days later. Kari is contesting the season in the planet’s most competitive young-gun series with a Volkswagen powered Dallara F312. His Volkswagen power unit is supplied by the successful tuners Spiess Motorenbau. Niko Kari races for the Eastern German Team Motopark that is based right at the circuit at Oschersleben.
The battle for the FIA Formula 3 European Championship title came to an early end, at Imola. Two weeks prior to the season finale at Oschersleben, young Canadian Lance Stroll (Dallara F312 Mercedes) secured the title, thus realising the goal he had set himself at the beginning of the season. On the way to securing the title, Stroll several times also benefited from the team order in his Prema Powerteam that is owned by his father. Lance Stroll’s path on the motor-racing ladder has been predetermined and funded by his father. In the coming season, the nearly 18-year old has to demonstrate his skills as member of the Williams F1 team.
Third, second, fifth – with these results, Joel Eriksson (Dallara F312 Volkswagen) consolidated his lead in the rookie ranking. Prior to the season finale at Hockenheim, the Swede holds the lead in the Sonax Rookie Ranking with 402 points on his tally, with his main rival, Estonia’s Ralf Aron, following 39 points behind.
