Perfect season finale
Spiess Motorenbau GmbH finished the 2016 motor-racing season with a superb win. The engine experts from Ditzingen won the prestigious Macau Grand Prix. With this success, engine manufacturer Spiess made history as the race was held by the World Motorsport Association for the first time as FIA Formula 3 World Cup.
Portuguese António Félix da Costa gave Spiess Motorenbau GmbH and his team, Carlin, the biggest success in the season. On 20th November, 2016, the 25-year old won the extremely demanding street race on the street of the gambling metropolis Macau, located nor far from Hong Kong. After 15 laps, Félix Da Costa (Dallara Volkswagen/Spiess) crossed the line of the World Cup as race winner, 1.603-second ahead of Sweden’s Felix Rosenqvist (Dallara Mercedes). They were accompanied on the podium by another driver who relied on the services of the Spiess engineers: Brazilian Sergio Setta Camara who also raced a Dallara-Volkswagen-Spiess single-seater.
Félix da Costa nearly was lost for words, following his triumph: “I always said that making it to the top five in this race would be a major success. To now be standing on the top step is just incredible. I’m a very happy man, now. And I have to thank my team that provided me with a car that had what it took to win this great race.”
